Local Actor’s Guide

“Local actor” is you, whatever your trade: producer (market gardening, livestock, cheesemaking, brewing…), artisan (woodworking, ceramics, soapmaking, sewing, jewellery, repairs…), creator (art, music, publishing…), event organiser, or even an ecovillage, shared space, community garden, or collective workshop. If you offer something in your community — a product, a service, a place, a moment — this guide is for you.

This guide takes you from the very start (creating your account) to advanced features (market checkout, events, subscriptions). You don’t need to read it all at once: start with the first sections, the rest will come naturally.

🙋 Not comfortable with technology? No worries. Every step is explained in detail, one action at a time. And if you get stuck, contact us: we’ll help.

1. Creating your account

  1. Go to the Register page.
  2. Choose “Local Actor” (not “Member”). This choice is what gives you the right to open a shop, appear on the map, and create events.
  3. Choose a display name: this is the only name shown publicly. Your real name is never displayed.
  4. Enter your email and a password.
  5. Accept the terms, confirm the small anti-bot check, then click Create my account.

💡 Password tip: choose something you’ll remember, but not obvious (avoid “123456” or your birth date). Write it down somewhere safe.

2. Confirming your email

Right after signing up, we send you a confirmation email.

  1. Open your inbox.
  2. Click the link in the message.
  3. Done: your account is activated.

⚠️ Didn’t get anything? Check your spam/junk folder. If truly nothing arrives, contact us and we’ll check on our end.

3. The setup wizard

To save you the trouble of hunting around, a wizard (a guide that opens on its own) asks you a few simple questions and sets up the essentials for you:

  • What’s your activity? (market gardening, crafts, events…)
  • Where are you? You place your pin on the map (or click “Locate me”).
  • Your first products, your contact details, your availability…

Just follow the steps, one at a time. You can close the wizard and pick it back up later: your answers are saved.

💡 You can always find this wizard again via the “Guide” button in your personal space (at the bottom of the menu, or the floating button on mobile).

4. Your place on the map

Your place is your pin on the community map. That’s how people find you.

  1. In your space, go to “My Place”.
  2. Fill in: displayed name, description (introduce yourself, say what you do), address, phone, and optionally your website or Telegram.
  3. Set the pin in the right spot on the map: drag it by hand, or use “Locate me”. The coordinates (latitude/longitude) are shown below for checking.
  4. Choose the category/categories that describe your activity.
  5. Save.

⚠️ Approval: to keep the map trustworthy, a new place is first checked by a moderator before it appears publicly. This is usually quick. You’ll get an email as soon as it’s live.

You can edit your listing at any time from “My Place”.

5. Your personal space

Everything is managed from your personal space (your dashboard). It’s organised into clear sections, in a side menu (or at the bottom of the screen on mobile):

  • My Products — your catalogue.
  • My Place — your listing on the map.
  • Delivery — pickup, shared drop-off points, shared delivery, home delivery.
  • Events — your markets, workshops, ticketing.
  • My Orders — your customers’ purchases.
  • My Profile / Payments — how you get paid, your contact details.
  • My Account — email, password, security.

💡 A notification bell alerts you to updates (new order, message, etc.).

6. Adding your products

  1. Go to “My Products” then “Add a product”.
  2. Type the product name: for many common products (fruit, vegetables…), an input helper automatically suggests a description, a photo, and even the harvest months/season. You can adjust everything.
  3. Check or add a photo (a nice photo makes people want to buy).
  4. Write a description: where it comes from, how it’s made, what makes it special.
  5. Set the price (see the next section for the different ways to set a price).
  6. Save.

💡 Lots of products to enter? There’s a “Add multiple products” button to import your catalogue all at once from a .csv file — Excel and LibreOffice can easily create one (File → Save As → CSV). First download the template file from your dashboard, then just fill it in. Ask us if you’d like a hand.

💡 Seasonal product? When you fill in the availability months, your customers know when they’ll be able to get it. It’s honest, and it builds anticipation at the right time.

7. Setting your prices

Liberta Local gives you several ways to set a price. For each product, you choose the mode that suits you:

  • Fixed price — the classic option. You set an amount, the customer pays that amount.
  • Pay-what-you-want price — you suggest an amount, but the customer decides how much they pay. Ideal for “conscious pricing”, support, or letting everyone give according to their means.
  • Price in Ğ1 free currency (June) — for those who use this citizen-run currency (see monnaie-libre.fr). You enter your Ğ1 public key in your settings; the customer pays you directly via their Ğecko or Cesium wallet, with no intermediary and no contribution at all.
  • Combinations — for example a fixed price and the option to pay in Ğ1, or a pay-what-you-want price in either currency.

You enter a suggested amount to guide the customer, even with pay-what-you-want pricing.

💡 Pay-what-you-want pricing feels unsettling at first, but many producers find that customers are fair, even generous, especially once they understand who they’re supporting. It’s a genuine trust argument the big platforms can’t offer.

8. How you get paid

You choose the payment methods you accept. Your customers will only see those.

Method How it works for you
Credit card Secure online payment. You connect your account once (Stripe), the money lands in your bank account.
Bank transfer The customer transfers the amount to your account details.
Cash on pickup The customer pays in cash when they collect their order. No fees.
Payment without a bank account Crypto, Ğ1 — for customers who prefer no bank intermediary.
Ğ1 / June (free currency) The customer pays you in Ğ1 directly via their wallet (Ğecko / Cesium), with no contribution at all. Enable it by entering your Ğ1 public key in your settings. More info: monnaie-libre.fr

The solidarity contribution, fully transparent

Liberta Local offers a voluntary solidarity contribution to help run the platform. It’s clearly displayed in your space, configurable by you (0% possible), and nowhere near the commissions charged by big platforms.

  • For online payments (credit card), the contribution is deducted automatically at the rate you set.
  • For cash or transfer payments, the amount accumulates and you settle it afterwards. Your space always shows what you’ve already paid and what’s still owing.
  • Payments in Ğ1 are exempt from the contribution (the free currency isn’t convertible).

💡 No credit card, no complicated account? You can absolutely start with just “cash on pickup”. That’s enough to sell at a market or direct-to-customer.

Your invoices

Every sale automatically generates a numbered invoice in a legally compliant format. You’ll find them in your space, ready to download.

Invoices reflect the GST/HST (and, where applicable, provincial sales tax such as QST or PST) rate for the province you’ve declared in your settings, calculated from the standard federal and provincial rates. Rates are self-declared and not independently verified — check with an accountant to confirm the correct registration and rates for your specific situation, especially if your revenue nears a mandatory GST/HST registration threshold.

Selling occasionally, without becoming a pro Local Actor

You don’t have a business number and just want to sell an item or two? This guide describes the path of a professional Local Actor (shop, invoices, business registration). If you’re only looking to sell occasionally, like on a classifieds marketplace, there’s a lighter profile: “Individual Local Actor”, activated with one click from your space (the “Sell occasionally” button), with no business registration.

  • Automatic legal cap: €2,000 or 30 transactions per year settled by card/bank transfer (EU DAC7 directive). Ğ1 isn’t affected by this cap. Liberta Local warns you before you reach it; beyond that, your listings are paused, with the option to switch to Local Actor (pro) to continue.
  • Mandatory anti-fraud safeguard before your first listing goes live: proving possession of a Ğ1 key via cryptographic signature, or verifying a Stripe account — a simple protection against throwaway accounts.
  • Ğ1 certification: if your identity doesn’t yet have enough certifications in the web of trust, Ğ1 payment can’t be made online in advance — it has to happen in person, at the meetup.
  • Meetup address never exchanged privately: you enter it on the platform, and Liberta Local communicates it to the buyer automatically once the order is confirmed — a record in case of any problem.
  • Free events: you can also organise your own events (an impromptu market, a one-off workshop…), free of charge and limited to one active event at a time.

9. Your orders

When a customer orders:

  1. You get notified (notification + email).
  2. You see the order under “My Orders”: what was ordered, how it’s paid for, and the chosen pickup/delivery method.
  3. You prepare the order, then update its status (being prepared, ready, picked up/delivered…). The customer is kept informed at every step.

Chatting with your customer

A chat is built into every order. You can talk directly with the buyer (confirm a pickup time, answer a question) without sharing your personal phone number or email.

10. Deposits

If you sell in reusable packaging (jars, bottles, crates), you can enable deposits:

  1. On a product, enable the deposit and set the amount per unit.
  2. At purchase, this amount is automatically added to the customer’s cart.
  3. When the customer returns the packaging, the deposit is refunded to them.
  4. Your space lists deposits pending return.

It’s good for the planet, and it builds loyalty.

11. Shared delivery

Rather than everyone making their own trips, Liberta Local lets you pool resources:

  • Group pickup / relay point — one actor agrees to receive products from several nearby producers, and customers come collect everything in one spot.
  • Shared delivery — you find producers near you (the platform detects them by distance) and team up to deliver together.
  1. Go to “Delivery”.
  2. Indicate what you offer (pickup at your place, drop-off at a relay point, home delivery…).
  3. Accept or propose shared-delivery partnerships with neighbours.

💡 Once your place is approved, nearby producers who offer shared delivery are automatically notified: you’re straight into the local network.

12. The quick checkout

This is the tool for selling in person, at a market, on the farm, at an event — even without a perfect connection.

  1. From your space, open the Quick Checkout.
  2. Add the products the customer is taking (type or scan them).
  3. The total is calculated. The customer pays: in cash, or by scanning a QR code to pay online (card, etc.).
  4. The sale is recorded as a normal order, with its invoice and receipt.

💡 Market session: you can open a session for the day, check out several customers in a row, then do your close-out (the day’s total) at the end of the market.

💡 QR code to display at your stall: show your QR code, the customer scans it with their phone and lands directly on your shop. Great for reordering later from home.

13. Events and tickets

Organising a market, a workshop, a shared meal, a gathering?

  1. Go to “Events”“Create an event”.
  2. Fill in: title, date and time, location, description, and if needed the ticket price (you can have several ticket types: full, reduced, free…).
  3. Publish. (Like places, a public event may go through a quick approval by a moderator.)

Attendees book their spot and receive their ticket by email with a QR code.

Checking tickets at the door

On the day, you scan the QR codes at the entrance to check tickets. It works even without an internet connection: handy out in a field or in a poorly-covered hall.

14. Subscriptions and backing

To go beyond one-off sales and secure your income:

  • Subscription / regular basket — your customers receive a basket every week (or on the schedule you set). Steady income for you, simplicity for them.
  • Group buy (threshold order) — the order triggers once enough people have joined (handy for large quantities, shared orders).
  • Backing a producer — your customers pre-fund your season (back a beehive, rows of vegetables, a tree…) and receive the produce afterwards. It’s upfront cash flow and a strong bond with your community.

Enable whatever interests you from your space. Start simple, add more over time.

15. Field journal

Your field journal is a small public logbook linked to your listing. Post updates there: “the first strawberries are in”, “planting squash this week”, “market cancelled Saturday due to rain”.

This is your voice. It’s what builds connection and trust — something no big anonymous platform could ever offer. A few lines and an occasional photo are enough.

16. Reviews and reputation

  • Your customers can leave a review after a purchase. Reviews are moderated and reserved for genuine buyers (no fake reviews).
  • A reputation builds up over time from your sales: a mark of trustworthiness for new customers.

💡 The best way to get good reviews: well-presented products, clear communication, and keeping your pickup/delivery commitments.

17. Protecting your account

  • Choose a strong password.
  • Enable two-factor security (2FA) in “My Account”: on top of your password, an app on your phone generates a one-time code. Even if someone discovers your password, they can’t get in.
  • Never share your password with anyone. The Liberta Local team will never ask you for it.

18. Local mutual aid between collectives

Beyond buying and selling, a new project is taking shape: how can local collectives — a group of producers, an association, a community of residents who know each other — support one another, in free currency (Ğ1), at whatever scale they choose (a district, a town, a simple trust group)?

This is a project in its listening phase, not yet a ready-to-use service. If your collective is motivated to be a pilot for an experiment, find all the details and apply on the Local mutual aid page — we get back to each collective individually.

19. Advanced management tools

As your activity grows, several tools save you time:

  • Collective shop — several producers can join forces to share a common storefront (useful for a market, a collective, a community-supported agriculture group). Activate it from your space, in the dedicated tab.
  • Delegated management — you can create a secondary access (for a partner, an employee, a family member) that manages your products, orders and customers without access to your payment settings. Handy if you’re not the only one running the shop day to day.
  • Liberta Pro — a dedicated form (Pro Space) for requests from restaurants, canteens, grocery stores and public bodies wanting to order in volume, with tailored pricing and deliveries.
  • Catalogue import/export — from the “My products” tab, you can import several products at once (CSV file, or directly from an existing Shopify store) and export your catalogue, orders or customers as CSV at any time — your data belongs to you.
  • Customer code — in “My account”, a personal code lets you quickly identify a regular customer at the quick till, without re-entering their details.
