1. Purpose
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the Liberta Local platform, available at https://local-ca.liberta.press.
Liberta Local is the platform for the local and neighbourhood economy. It lists producers, artisans, eco-places, events and workshops near you on an interactive map, and lets every local actor open an online shop and organise into co-delivery networks. The platform is entirely self-managed and non-profit — no advertising, funded mainly by donations — and operates with respect for members’ privacy.
Using the platform constitutes full and unconditional acceptance of these Terms. Information about the publisher and hosting provider is available on the Legal Notice page.
2. Registration and account
2.1 Creating an account
Registration is free and open to anyone wishing to take part in the local economy. It requires a valid email address and a password. No identity verification is mandatory.
2.2 Privacy
Only the display name chosen at registration is shown publicly. Your real name, email address and personal data are never visible to other members. The team commits to never disclosing this information to third parties except where legally required.
2.3 Account responsibility
Each member is responsible for keeping their credentials confidential. Any access through an account is deemed to have been made by its holder. In case of compromise, the member must inform the team without delay.
2.4 Place limit
Each member may list one (1) place on the map. Adding a further place is possible on request, subject to review by the team.
2.5 Special case of sellers
Protection of public identity (display name) applies to all members, including sellers. However, accepting online payments and applicable regulations require additional checks: a seller who activates card payments provides their real identity to the payment provider (a “KYC” requirement). This information is never displayed publicly or shared with other members.
2.6 “Occasional Individual Local Actor” status
A member may sell occasionally, without registering a business, as long as the cumulative amount of their sales settled by card or bank transfer stays under the threshold set by the European “DAC7” directive (€2,000 or 30 transactions per calendar year). Sales settled in the free currency Ǧ2 (June) are not counted toward this threshold, as this currency is neither convertible into fiat currency nor taxable in this context. Beyond the threshold, selling features are automatically suspended until the seller comes into compliance (by switching to professional Local Actor status with business registration) or until the following January 1. Activating occasional selling requires an anti-fraud safeguard: the member must prove possession of a Ğ1 key via cryptographic signature, or hold a verified Stripe account for card payments. When payment is made in the free currency Ğ1, the seller’s identity must have a sufficient number of certifications in the Duniter web of trust; otherwise, payment must take place in person, at the meetup between the parties, rather than online in advance.
3. Listing places and events
3.1 Moderation
Every submitted place or event is reviewed before appearing on the public map. The team reserves the right to refuse or suspend any listing without having to justify its decision, particularly in cases of unlawful, misleading content or content incompatible with the platform’s values.
3.2 Accuracy of information
Members agree to provide accurate information and keep it up to date (address, hours, contact details, accepted payment methods). Incorrect or misleading information may result in the place being suspended.
3.3 Prohibited content
Prohibited: unlawful content, scams, sale of counterfeit goods, unauthorised regulated activities, and discriminatory, hateful content or content infringing on the privacy of others.
4. Online shop and transactions
4.1 Solidarity contribution
Liberta Local runs on a free, per-seller-configurable solidarity contribution (3% suggested, adjustable down to 0%), not an imposed commission. Revenue generated belongs to the seller, minus the contribution they choose.
4.2 Responsibility for transactions
Transactions between buyers and sellers are made directly between the parties. Liberta Local is not a party to contracts concluded between members and cannot be held liable for commercial disputes, delivery failures or non-conforming products.
4.3 Payment methods
The platform supports cash payment (on pickup), card payment (processed by payment provider Stripe), bank transfer, the free currency Ğ1 (June), and, where available, cryptocurrency. Each seller sets which payment methods they accept. Online payments are paid directly to the seller via the payment provider: Liberta Local does not hold funds on behalf of sellers.
4.4 Deposits
Sellers may require a deposit before confirming an order. Terms (amount, accepted payment methods, deadlines) are set freely by the seller and communicated to the buyer at the time of order.
4.5 Disputes
In the event of a dispute between a buyer and a seller, the parties are invited to settle it amicably. The team may be asked to mediate, without any obligation of outcome.
4.6 In-person handoff and payment holdback
For sales between individuals settled in person, the exact meetup address is never exchanged informally between the parties: it is entered by the seller on the platform, then automatically communicated by Liberta Local to the buyer at the time the order is confirmed. This communication is logged for traceability purposes, particularly in case of an incident during the meetup. For card payments relating to a sale between individuals, payment to the seller may be held until the buyer confirms receipt or, failing that, for a reasonable period with no dispute reported. Cash payments made during an in-person handoff do not pass through the platform and benefit from no protection or guarantee from Liberta Local.
5. Co-delivery
The co-delivery service allows geographically close sellers to pool their deliveries. Partnerships are established voluntarily between members, based on a mutual request and acceptance. Liberta Local does not guarantee the availability or reliability of co-delivery partnerships and cannot be held liable for any failure in their execution.
6. Personal data and privacy
6.1 Data collected
The platform collects only the data strictly necessary for the service to function: email address, display name, GPS coordinates of the listed place, and order history. We also measure general site traffic anonymously and in aggregate, to understand usage — never to identify you individually. No data is collected for advertising purposes or sold to third parties.
6.2 Cookies and tracking
Liberta Local uses neither advertising cookies nor third-party tracking tools (Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.). We use only Matomo, a self-hosted open-source analytics tool — your visit data therefore never leaves our servers, IP address anonymised, never used for advertising. Other cookies used are strictly functional (session, cart, authentication).
6.3 Right of access and deletion
In accordance with PIPEDA and applicable privacy law, each member has a right to access, correct and delete their data. To exercise these rights, contact the team at the address given in section 9. Deleting an account results in anonymisation of all associated data within 30 days.
6.4 Hosting
Data is hosted in Finland 🇫🇮, one of the world’s highest-ranked countries for press freedom and democracy (RSF / EIU index). Servers are under the exclusive control of the Liberta Local team and subject to the EU GDPR — access to stored data is restricted to the team.
6.5 Technical providers
To operate, the platform relies on a limited number of providers: Cloudflare (attack protection and traffic routing — exchanges pass encrypted through its network), OpenStreetMap (map base and address geocoding), public CDNs (jsDelivr, unpkg, cdnjs — loading of display libraries, without cookies or tracking) and Stripe (card payment processing). Like any server accessed over the Internet, these providers can technically see the visitor’s IP address; none of them receives your identity, email, or platform usage history. Stripe receives only the data necessary for payment.
7. Intellectual property
Members retain full rights to the content they publish (text, photos, descriptions). By publishing it on the platform, they grant Liberta Local a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display it as part of the service. This licence ends when the content or account is deleted.
The platform is developed and maintained by the Liberta Local team. The “Liberta Local” brand and associated graphic elements are the property of their respective owners.
8. Limitation of liability
Liberta Local is provided “as is”, without guarantee of continuous availability or absence of bugs. The team strives to ensure service continuity but cannot be held liable for interruptions, data loss, or indirect damages resulting from use of the platform.
The platform reserves the right to modify, suspend or discontinue all or part of the service at any time, in particular for maintenance, technical evolution or legal requirements.
9. Contact

10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the applicable laws of Canada and of the member’s province or territory of residence, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection provisions of that jurisdiction. Any dispute not resolved amicably falls under the jurisdiction of the competent courts of the member’s province or territory of residence.
The team reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Members will be informed of any substantial change. Continued use of the platform after notification constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
